WEISHENG · FOOTWEAR DEVELOPMENT
Material & Color CustomizationMake the approved swatch part of the product definition.
Material and color decisions affect footwear appearance, construction and development planning. Weisheng can discuss upper and outsole materials, textures, finishes and colorways in the context of the intended product, then coordinate the scope confirmed for the project.

A material or color request should identify the component and a usable reference. Screen images and color names can begin a discussion but do not establish an exact physical match, performance or supply availability. Confirm the actual sample, evaluation conditions and accepted differences before approval.
01 · PROJECT SCOPE
Specify the component, not just the color name
The company profile links material and color consistency with sample-stage quality expectations. A shoe can combine several materials and finishes, so the same color description should not be assumed to produce an identical appearance on every component.
Component and material use
Identify where the proposed material will be used and the intended construction. Discuss upper, lining, outsole, trims or packing separately where their requirements differ.
Reference and appearance
Provide identified swatches, color references and finish expectations. Review texture, surface appearance and the conditions used for comparison, and document differences needing a decision.
Feasibility and supply conditions
Discuss whether the option is available or needs development. Quantities, material availability, construction compatibility and sample work influence cost and timing; they require confirmation rather than assumptions.
Sample and substitution control
Evaluate the actual proposed combination in a sample where needed. Record the accepted reference and review replacements for their effects on appearance, construction, fit and any existing test evidence.
02 · WORKING SEQUENCE
From a color idea to an approved reference
- 01
Identify
Link each material and color to its component.
- 02
Compare
Review swatches and finish expectations.
- 03

Evaluate the proposed product combination.
- 04
Approve
Record the accepted references and conditions.
03 · DECISION RECORD
A useful material-and-color record
| Component | Use, material direction and construction context. |
|---|---|
| Reference | Swatch, color code where provided, finish and version. |
| Review | Comparison basis, differences and sample feedback. |
| Approval | Accepted reference, substitutions and follow-up responsibility. |
04 · KEEP THE BASIS CLEAR
Review a change before replacing the approved reference
A visually similar material may differ in construction or relevant properties. Document the proposed change and confirm whether a new sample, further evaluation, revised quotation or schedule review is needed. Keep the current specification consistent with the decision.
05 · PRACTICAL QUESTIONS
Before moving forward
Is a digital color reference enough for final approval?
It can guide the discussion, but agree the physical reference and comparison basis appropriate to the material and product before final approval.
Can a similar material replace the approved one automatically?
No. Review the differences and their product, evidence and commercial effects with the responsible parties before adopting the substitution.
